Summary


Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust is now looking to appoint for our 2024-2025 Education fellows. These highly popular posts are an exciting opportunity for junior doctors to formally develop their medical education experience for those who want to make a commitment to education as part of their career. These are one year fixed term ‘out of programme’ posts based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and is fully supervised. Suitable candidates should aim to use the year to build on their personal teaching experience, develop expertise in education theory and practice (opportunity to carry out a PGCert) and undertake supervised educational research.

Please note you should only apply for the post if the following criteria are met:
• Fully GMC registered
• An FY2-StR in a recognised specialty training programme. By the time of taking up the post will have completed 1 year (WTE) or more of an approved training programme and able to apply for OOPE or between training programmes.
• Able to attend MS Teams interview if shortlisted –anticipated April 16th2024
• Able to commence the post from August 2024 (1 year fixed term) – some flexibility may be afforded here depending on speciality rotation dates.

A medical education fellowship is designed for trainees at FY2 level and above who want to make a commitment to education as part of their career. Suitable candidates should wish to use the year to build on their personal teaching experience, develop expertise in education theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.

Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central to the post, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing undergraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East.

The Undergraduate Teaching Fellows provide teaching and support to Imperial College London medical students at all stages of training on their clinical placements at Chelsea and Westminster. Teaching primarily covers both medical and surgical topics and is delivered as a combination of lectures, small group tutorials and bedside teaching. The Fellows will also be involved in supporting the clinical teams in specialty departments for example critical care, paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology.
