This opening assignment is for 2-3 months

As a Mechanic in Fleet Services your role will be the service and repair of plant in a safe, efficient, and economic manner.

Key responsibilities:

Driving and manoeuvring Plant as necessary, recovering defective or damaged equipment, carrying out the full range of technical checks and diagnostic tests.
Observing, recognising & reporting on plant component, or systems defects, or impending failure, assessing, recording and/or costing the repair (as appropriate).
Carrying out routine inspections, service, and repairs of selected plant in the LCC fleet according to the schedules issued by the Stores Depot, and in accordance with prescribed quality standards, utilising specialist services as required.
Examining equipment, reporting verbally or in writing, upon the condition, roadworthiness, and safety.
Carrying out both mechanical and electrical repairs and/or adjustments as required, under the instruction of the prescribed quality standards.
Interpreting & implementing technical service instruction data, and manufacturers’ modifications. Maintaining a personal tool kit, special tools, and equipment in a good, safe, secure condition.
As the nature of the work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours, you will need to be prepared to work outside of normal working hours and undertake departmental standby rota responsibilities.

Qualifications:

GCSE Grades A-C or equivalent in English and Maths (e.g. NVQ level 2).
NVQ Level 3 in a subject relevant to the business area OR BTEC ONC or Diploma in a technical or administrative field
Have a valid driving licence and able to provide own transport.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of using ICT systems and business processes to support the efficient delivery of services.
Knowledge of EU Procurement rules and Public Contract Regulations 2015.
Knowledge of materials and plant utilised by highways construction and maintenance services - desirable

Experience:

Experience of working in the highway maintenance, construction industry and/or a purchasing environment.
Experience of problem solving and analysing information.

Skills & Abilities:

Proactive planning and organisation skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to deal with internal and external customers on the telephone and face to face.
Able to deal with correspondence.
Ability to compile and interpret reports.
