This is a Fixed Term Contract ending 31st March 2025.

An opportunity to join the Dermatology Team at the Great Western Hospital as a DAWN Administrator. Working with the established Medical Specialities DAWN team, you will support the setup of the service to provide ongoing medication to dermatology patients in a safe and timely manner.

Working closely with the clinical team, under the direction of the Therapy Coordinator, you will monitor and check patients' records ensuring their requirements and needs are met when prescribing drug treatments. You will deal with clinicians and patients on a daily basis ensuring all process' are followed to meet consistent deadlines.

We are looking for an experienced administrator with an eye for detail and excellent communication skills. Used to working on their own initiative within guidance, and wanting to make a real difference for our patients.



The role is part of the DAWN Service within the Dermatology Department to provide a comprehensive administration service supporting the delivery of safe prescribing of long term treatments.

Directly responsible to, and supervised by the Medical Specialities Therapies Coordinator, this post will provide administrative and clerical support to enable the DAWN service to track patients and test results providing remote prescribing of Rheumatology Drugs.

1. Responsible for accurately recording incoming patient prescription requests and informing pharmacy of revised medication requirements.
2. Produce blood forms and correspondence and print prescriptions as per recommendation of clinical team, benchmarking accuracy against e-prescribing system.
3. Check and monitor up to date blood tests and review trends set by clinicians prior to producing prescriptions.
4. Ensure up to date blood results are available to inform prescribing policy, and results are within permissible range to authorise dispensing of drugs safely. Engage with patients and carers to ensure tests and results are performed in line with pathway timescales, planning and arranging tests with patients, Trust and GP’s to ensure no delays to treatment.
5. Maintain a list of patients with poor participation, actively engage with patients and carers using persuasive skills to arrange overdue tests, escalating non-attenders to clinic to be seen by clinical staff.
6. Maintain contact with housebound patients and carers, liaising and organising visits from Community Services to enable blood tests and pathway provision for vulnerable patient group.
7. Liaise closely with home delivery organisations to ensure accuracy of orders. Maintain database of patients on home delivery, collating requests and generating prescriptions and blood forms for home delivery company against pathway deadlines.
8. Communicate effectively with patients, carers, pharmacies, clinicians, senior managers, home delivery companies and GP’s. Communication will involve detailed information on patients, treatments and clinical results to enable a smooth pathway for patients during treatment.
