Summary

The Newham Community Mental Health Team for Older People has an opportunity for a highly motivated and dynamic Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the team for 8 months, based at First Avenue Resource Centre in Plaistow.

Occupational Therapists are valued members of the multi-disciplinary CMHT. The emphasis for Occupational Therapy in our team is to support individuals to focus on what matters most to them - often this is to remain living at home. Occupational Therapy is provided both in individual sessions as well as groups, delivered in community settings or the service users’ homes. There are also opportunities to develop the service in line with Mental Health Community Transformation.

The Band 7 Occupational Therapistwill take the lead for Occupational Therapy and also is part of the management team. This role requires clear communication and an ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and with other external agencies.

By joining us, you will have the support of the CMHT, the co-located memory services and the wider Mental Health Occupational Therapy service in Newham. Professional supervision will be provided and you will have access to in-service training and profession specific development.

To help us to consider you for this role, please clearly state three reasons why we should shortlist you within your supporting statement.

• To provide high quality, evidence based and person-centered Occupational Therapy (OT) assessment and intervention to older people with functional and/or organic mental health problems living in the community.

• To provide expert consultation to the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) from an OT perspective, raising the profile of OT and the benefit of occupation-based approaches.

• To manage complex clinical situations, provide advice and guidance to colleagues on working with clients with emotional and behavioural needs.

• To support the ongoing development of the OT service within Community Mental Health transformation, particularly how to optimize the value of OT, alongside the Head OT for Older Adults and Directorate Lead for OT in Newham.

• To deputise for the Head OT for Older Adults and the CMHT Operational Lead as required, providing leadership to the wider CMHT.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

See attached job description for details on the role and responsibilities. Please pay particular attention to the essential criteria.
