Summary

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.

In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based HR Team.

This role has a September start, and for any roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months.

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position, as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

The role of Director of MIS at WCG has overall responsibility for the MIS function. Reporting into the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), the post holder will ensure robust data management, business processes and business intelligence and will ensure that funding is both compliant and optimised in support of the financial health of the college.

This post is responsible to the Chief Finance Officer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

✓ To actively participate in the WCG strategic business planning process, leading on funding aspects and providing support and guidance to all curriculum management. This will include monitoring changes to funding rules, assessing and communicating their immediate and potential impact on the College, highlighting both opportunities and risks.
✓ To maintain and develop an accurate, succinct, user focussed, timely and compliant Management Information System that integrates with other Group central functions such as Finance.

✓ To build business processes, data warehousing and business intelligence tools that support the efficiencies and service improvements of generative AI and meet the operational needs of College decision makers as reflected in Service Level.
✓ Agreements and subject to annual self-assessment.
✓ To ensure that returns to and requests from all relevant external agencies are accurate, compliant and delivered on time and that all related data capture and amendment processes to are reviewed to ensure continued compliance with audit and funding requirements.
✓ To regularly run national & College data validation, audit and optimisation tools, ensuring recommended actions have been investigated and implemented where necessary and to also benchmark relative College performance. To lead on internal and external Funding audits as appropriate, including the external student learner numbers audit.
✓ To ensure “Other” key data sources, such as Additional Learning Support, and Learner Record Service data are adequate and reconciled against the College core systems on a regular basis.
✓ To support the Colleges’ Quality and Risk processes, attending meetings and providing data/reports as and when required.
✓ To manage a team responsible for programme set ups, periodic internal audit reviews and on-going compliance checks.

In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.

ESSENTIAL ATTAINMENTS

✓ Experience working in a MIS role in a diversified FE College, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the systems and software.
✓ To have an understanding of the curriculum needs and the demands of a large, multi-site, diversified FE College with varied income sources.
✓ To have an in-depth knowledge of the relevant funding mechanisms for all funded income sources.
✓ Working knowledge of information technology such as e-mail, the internet and ✓ other software applications.
✓ Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
✓ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

DESIRABLE ATTAINMENTS

✓ Qualified at Degree/HND or equivalent.
