Summary

SALARY: £55,077 - £60,000 per annum + Generous Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Hybrid working from the office in Ealing, West London and from home

WORKING HOURS: 35 hour per week, Monday to Friday


JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior External Communications Manager with experience of planning and delivering general press, PR, media relations and external communication work programmes within a large organisation, proven team leadership/line management experience and excellent copy writing, editing and proofreading skills.

Working as the Senior External Communications Manager you will be responsible for promoting and protecting the organisation’s reputation.

As the Senior External Communications Manager, you will achieve this by leading on the external communications work programme which includes planning, managing and delivering a range of high-quality projects and activities, including media relations, public relations, issues/crisis management and corporate publications.


DUTIES

Your duties as the Senior External Communications Manager will include:

External Communications

• Contribute towards the development of external communications strategies

• Manage the delivery of the external communications programme across the Group

• Act as business partner for key areas of the business and to build strong stakeholder relationships

• Plan, manage and deliver a range of high-quality external communications projects and activities including:

o Media relations
o Issues & risks management
o Public relations
o Publications
o Business Information & Assets
o Stakeholder management/public affairs

• Monitor, review and report on the performance of the external communications work programmes

• Manage, coach and develop direct reports and wider team members

• Champion the organisation’s brands and protect its integrity, including advising on brand strategy and usage, corporate identity, house style and production assets

• Manage the procurement of and relationships with creative agencies, PR agencies, licensors and suppliers

Team Management

• Assist the Head of Corporate Communications with the overall management of the Corporate Communications Team and to deputise in their absence. This includes:

o Leading on crisis and business continuity planning and incidents

o Understanding and contributing towards a range of projects and activities across the entire Corporate Communications Team

o Coaching and developing members of the wider Corporate Communications Team

o Ensuring communications materials are produced to a high standard by reviewing, signing-off and managing approvals prior to publishing internally and/or externally

o Assisting with planning and performance reporting across the Corporate Communications team

o Contributing towards leading and managing the Editorial Panel


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English (Grades A*- C) is essential

• A relevant professional qualification (e.g. in internal communications) or equivalent is essential

• Educated to degree level or equivalent is desirable

• A management qualification is desirable

• Significant knowledge and experience in planning, managing and delivering general press and external communication work programmes within a large, complex organisation, including:

o Media relations (inc. interview guidance/training)
o Issues/crisis management
o Public relations/marketing communications (inc. investor relations, awards,)
o Publications
o Stakeholder Management/public affairs

• Project and programme management, including briefs, plans, delivery and evaluation, working with peers and colleagues across different departments

• Proven team leadership and line management experience

• Strong stakeholder management, influencing and negotiating skills

• Excellent copy writing, editing and proofreading skills, with good grammar and literacy

• Brand management, ensuring communications are delivered in line with the Group’s tone of voice and corporate identity

• Good knowledge and experience across internal communications

• Knowledge of housing/housebuilding industry
