Summary


As a skilled independent practitioner undertake clinical duties in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit / Gynaecology Department.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high standard of patient care

Provide a high quality, efficient service and demonstrate clinical expertise in Early Pregnancy / Gynaecology.

Assess, diagnose and provide appropriate management, patient information and follow up, in line with local protocols and NICE guidelines.

You will be expected to work as part of a weekend rota and across both Bristol and Weston sites.
• Work as an independent practitioner in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic within Gynaecology at St. Michael’s Hospital and Weston General Hospital
• To review urgent patients referred, to provide skilled assessment of women who present with pain and bleeding in early pregnancy, includinghistory taking, physical assessment and requesting, and acting on appropriate tests and investigations in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate specialist knowledge in the early pregnancy setting relating to diagnosis of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and Hyperemesis providing evidence-based information to staff and patients.
• Supporting women and partners through miscarriage treatments including Medical management, surgical management and Manual vacuum aspiration of miscarriage, providing women with relevant information.
• Use judgement skills as to when to discuss unusual or questionable cases/ scan findings with advanced midwife/ nurse practitioner/ senior registrar
• Use skills and judgement in diagnostic reasoning and refer/escalate accordingly
• To undertake extended scope of Professional Practice roles including: vaginal and abdominal examination, venepuncture, cannulation and consent.
• Plan, prioritise and assist with day to day organisation of workload, triage referrals and ensure a good throughput of patients is achieved maximising capacity to meet demand for the service.
