Summary
This programme is delivered across three pillars—

- Regulatory Landscape: Ensuring a well-functioning landscape of regulators, that deliver the intended outcomes.
The successful candidate for this role will join the Better Regulation team, within the Flow pillar. The team holds departments across government to account for the quality of their regulatory policy, through the operation and continuous improvement of the Better Regulation Framework. The team’s work is high-profile and involves regular contact with ministers. The role comes with excellent opportunities to engage with senior officials across government and in partner organisations.

The Smarter Regulation Directorate is seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious individual to join the Better Regulation team and drive work across the second pillar of the Directorate’s work.
The responsibilities of the role will focus on work to reduce the flow of regulation on businesses, which will include:
- Leading policy advice on good regulatory practice and leading work to develop and implement policy for the UK’s Better Regulation Framework.
- Leading on the delivery of training on the reformed Better Regulation Framework across government to ensure government complies with the Framework requirements.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the Better Regulation Unit network across government departments. You will be expected to negotiate clear positions and roles with stakeholders and delivery partners, including government departments and the independent Regulatory Policy Committee.
- Leading on Framework responses to government write rounds, ensuring that measures are compliant with the Framework and align with smarter regulation priorities. This is involves engaging and collaborating with other teams across the Smarter Regulation Directorate, the DBT Cabinet Committee and other teams across the Department to make informed decisions.
- Supporting on other ad-hoc work across the team, depending on workloads.
