Summary

Advise nursing and other ward / department staff on supply and storage of medicines, stock control and any other relevant information to ensure compliance with local policies and procedures Co-ordinate the provision of medicines on discharge, dispensing simple prescriptions on the ward Prioritise workload for the ward, oversee the process through the dispensary and ensure timely delivery. Ensure that additional medicines are not dispensed unnecessarily on discharge e.g. by ascertaining if the patient has more supplies at home Manage an effective system to ensure the efficient and economic provision of stock medicines, avoiding unnecessary supply and, where possible, recycling any medicines that are no longer needed. Where appropriate, provide a ward top-up service for controlled drugs and maintain associated records, in accordance with procedures Provide patients and patients representatives with basic information and advice needed to use their medicines effectively, referring to a pharmacist where appropriate The post-holder will supervise some aspects of the work of PharmacyAssistants, in the Pharmacy Department and at ward level Where appropriate, and where agreed as a requirement for furtherdevelopment of the service to the relevant team, undertake advanced training programmes Contribute to the training and development of new staff to ensure thecontinuation of best practice Participate in reviews of work methods and contribute to the development of new processes and systems to minimise risk and to ensure that services are improved continuously Achieve objectives agreed at Achievement Review in order to contribute effectively to the provision of pharmacy services that are continuously improved, and to ensure continuous personal and professional development.
