We are looking for a dedicated and proactive individual to join our Revenue Protection team in Middlesbrough, as a Revenue Officer to deliver exceptional customer service and ensure revenue based services are adhered to by all who travel with Northern.


With over 100 million passengers travelling with us each year, Revenue Protection is vital to safeguarding of Northern revenue by implementing measures to prevent revenue leakage, fare evasion, and other forms of revenue loss.



As a Revenue Officer you’ll be responsible for travelling across our network, on our trains and stations, to proficiently handling various travel irregularities, including Unpaid Fares Notices, Travel Incident Reports, and Penalty Fares. You’ll also work closely with the Train Conductor to devise the most effective methods of revenue collection, protection, and customer service, all in compliance with current rules, regulations, and Railway Byelaws.




Key responsibilities:



This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

Safety and Security: Prioritize and ensure the safety of customers and colleagues, including yourself, by adhering to safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
Travel Irregularities Management: Act as an Authorised Collector, proficiently handling travel irregularities such as Unpaid Fares Notices, Travel Incident Reports, and Penalty Fares with fairness and consistency.
Competence Assessments: Complete competence assessments as required by an appropriate competence assessor, ensuring ongoing professional development and adherence to role requirements.
Reporting: Prepare necessary reports pertaining to revenue protection activities, documenting relevant information accurately and promptly.
Cash Compliance: Maintain compliance with cash regulations, following established protocols for handling and processing cash transactions effectively and securely.
Ticket Inspections: Monitor the on-train environment, conduct ticket inspections, validate tickets, and issue tickets as appropriate, ensuring the accuracy and validity of fare payments.
Customer Assistance: Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers promptly and courteously, addressing their queries, and ensuring their needs are met.
Partnership with Conductor: Collaborate closely with the Conductor to determine the most effective methods of revenue collection, protection, and customer service, promoting seamless teamwork and enhancing overall service delivery.
Revenue Protection: Identify, report, and maximize revenue protection opportunities, implementing strategies to minimize fare evasion and revenue loss.
Railway Byelaw Compliance: Uphold Railway Byelaws, ensuring strict adherence to regulations and contributing to a safe and orderly travel environment.
About you:



As a self-motivated, driven individual you will have excellent problem-solving skills, a passion for providing excellent customer service and the ability to work collaboratively within a wider team. You will also demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a keen eye for detail.



We’re also looking for the following:

Able to demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Naturally resilient, with a positive attitude towards their work and the customers they serve
The ability to remain patient, confident and calm in stressful situations, by demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
Ability to communicate effectively face to face; and when writing reports
Experience of following rules and regulations in a similar environment (Desirable)
Have previous experience in a similar enforcement type role. (Desirable)
A good understanding of Maths & English
Excellent communication
