The Leicester Neonatal Service is currently split across 2 hospital sites covering the Leicester General and Leicester Royal Infirmary. We currently have a total of 42 cots with a plan to incrementally increase to a total of 70 cots in a new state of the art unit as part of a UHL reconfiguration project with the first phase of cot expansion happening later this year.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary is our main site and our unit is housed in a state of the art facility with the full range of services and equipment. There are currently 18 cots that can provide flexible ITU / HDU care and 12 Special Care cots. Our smaller unit is based at Leicester General Hospital which is a Special Care Baby Unit and has 12 cots. There is on average around 10,000 deliveries per annum in Leicester. We are the South Hub Lead Perinatal Centre for the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. UHL is also the host for the CenTre Neonatal Transport Service.
