Summary

Main purpose of the job: As a Bluebell Wood nurse team leader, you will: Provide clinical and professional leadership to the care team, supporting to the day-to-day running of the hospice, with focus on ensuring a high standard of holistic care. Provide line management to a multiprofessional group of staff. Work with the clinical leadership team, supporting the operational development of the hospice, with specific responsibilities for governance and quality assurance. Clinical: Ensure high quality, evidence-based care is offered to babies, children and young people (children). To collaborate with Care Leadership Team to identify the common issues which affect the quality of care, devising clear action plans to address any shortcomings ensuring agreed action is undertaken. To care for children with a wide range of complex clinical needs and technology dependence (eg ventilation, tracheostomies and enteral feeding devices) To ensure that advance care plans (CYPACPs) are completed in a timely and appropriate way. Act as an advocate for families whilst also empowering families and encouraging parental participation in care. Attend the Assessment Panel as required and carry out the required follow-up work, including the assessment of children referred for care. Have up to date knowledge of safeguarding procedures and support referral processes. Audit and service improvement: Lead a named area of governance, as part of the Care Leadership Team. Perform quality assurance audits and evaluations Ensure the clinical nursing practice is research based and develop nursing practice with the staff team using evidence based models of care, which combine theory and practice. Assist the Senior Care Leadership Team with updating or writing new protocols, policies and competencies. Support the clinical governance agenda within the hospice. Leadership: Contribute towards quality and improvement initiatives being undertaken, as directed by the Care Team Leaders. Report near misses and untoward incidents, complaints, clinical emergencies, injury or medicine administration errors, as outlined in the hospice policies and procedures and investigate incidents as delegated by Head of Care Manage the booking and allocation of planned short breaks Management of staffing levels in line with policy guidance Line manage a named group of staff, including responsibility for appraisals and related HR processes To participate in the recruitment of staff To undertake HR processes that enable the day to day running of the hospice (sickness reporting etc.), as a shift leader Education: Actively assist in the education and practical training of colleagues, students and trainees. Supervise and orientate learners and new staff. Participate in surveys, audit, research and facilitating clinical trials as required. Assess students on placement, in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Governance: To welcome and respect diversity and contribute positively to anti-discriminatory practice, actively promoting equality and diversity. Ensure a consistent approach to all aspects of care delivery by following protocols and prescribed care, recommending changes to advance practice. Report all incidents/accidents and near misses in line with reporting procedures to facilitate opportunities to advance practice and investigate any incidents delegated from the Head of Care Actively contribute to employee consultation around policy and procedure development and highlight any areas of concern or suggestions for improvement. Professional requirements: Comply with the requirements for NMC Revalidation, identifying own learning needs and ensuring own professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practice developments. Participate in clinical supervision and appraisals. Successfully complete required competences as defined by Bluebell Wood.
