Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and industrious Research Assistant to join our Psychological Therapies Team.

This Research Assistant post will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work within a large and well-established Eating Disorders Service supporting the Principal Psychologist. The post will see you carrying out clinical audits and service evaluations as well as supporting other research endeavours within the service including writing up articles for publication. The candidate will be expected to be able to work independently according to a plan agreed with the Principal Psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will receive supervision from the Principal Psychologist and have access to support and training opportunities from other professionals within the multidisciplinary team. In addition to a weekly Psychological Therapies Team meetings and fortnightly CPD sessions, there is a clinical improvement group where the whole service meets on a monthly basis.

To support and enhance the research provision in the service. Specifically, to assist in conducting of audits, the collection of statistics, and the development of audit and/or research projects and service evaluations, and project work which will include writing audit/service evaluation reports and research papers for publication. To work on research projects under the supervision of members of the Psychological Therapies Team. To work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and service evaluation
1. To collate and produce yearly reports regarding the routine outcome measures for our Bulimia Recovery Groups, Recovery from Binge Eating Groups, CBT-ED, CBT-T, MANTRA and SSCM pathways. This may include the administration, scoring, and maintaining of a database.
2. To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects. Research projects include evaluation studies, clinical research projects, and service-related research.
3. To undertake data collection, analysis, and the production of reports and summaries using IT and statistical programmes (i.e. SPSS).
4. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified Psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
5. To assist in the production and submission of research proposals.
6. To assist in the writing of research papers for publication.
Teaching, training, and supervision
1. To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
2. To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS over and above that provided within the principal service area where the postholder is employed.
3. To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
4. To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care (as needed).
Management, recruitment, and service development
1. To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.
2. To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.

IT responsibilities (other than those used for research)
1. To use computers to write reports and record data, including the use of statistical packages as part of psychological testing, research and assessment when needed.
2. To be able to use research databases and advanced tools for analysis at both quantitative and qualitative levels.
General:
1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholder’s professional and team/operational manager(s).
2. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
3. To prepare test materials and visual aids as required.
4. To perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the grade, which may be required from time to time by the Psychological Therapies team and the Service Manager.
