Female Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a 12 year old girl living with my parents my sister in Tonypandy.
I have a genetic defect and have also been diagnosed with MPEI (Migrating Partial Epilepsy in Infants) with is a very rare condition and I am the only child with MPEI in South Wales. I am a wheelchair user and I use a hoist. This means I am sensitive to flashing lights, sunlight and hot and cold temperatures. I have a lot of seizures, am unable to control my own temperature, have no head control, can’t sit or walk and am tube fed with a stoma bag. I need to be treated very gently as I have brittle bones and if I am over stimulated it can lead to me having a seizure. I have many different types of seizure so my mother will teach you the signs to look for.
PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide my mother with support with my morning routine and also accompanying us to help attend appointments to the hospital.
PLACE OF WORK
At my home address unless I am in Royal Glamorgan hospital
HOURS OF WORK
4 hours per week
Tuesday morning 10am-2pm (this can be flexible)
To cover sickness and holiday
RATE OF PAY
£11.50 per hour
TASKS INVOLVED
· Cleaning my equipment
· Stocking up medical supplies
· Give me a bed bath
· Change stoma bag
· Help me with my morning routine
· Change my bedding
· Accompanying me and my mother and providing support whilst out shopping or for hospital appointments
· Mixing feeds up (elemental feeds)
· Sitting with me for short periods of time but this won’t be needed straight away, only after you are settled and confident in the job
· Reading to me
· Putting sensory toys in my hand
· Personal care tasks such as changing, bathing and dressing
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
· Somebody who will be able to work flexibly
· Knowledge of working with children with extra needs would be an advantage
· A driver for occasional trips in your car
· Somebody who is outgoing and chatty
· Experience of dealing with seizures would be an advantage
· Willing to attend training including first aid
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
