Summary

Head of Business & Service Design
The Transformation Team
Ref: 149672
Salary: Grade 9, £57,696 - £64,914 per annum.

The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 570 years, and today we are one of the world's top 100 universities. We are delighted to have recently been awarded Scottish University of the Year by the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024.

Our people have always been at the forefront of innovation, and our past achievements inspire our current world changers.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head of Business & Service Design to join the University’s Transformation team on a fixed term (maternity leave cover) basis.

About the team
The University of Glasgow has embarked on a significant journey of transformation. We have embedded a dedicated Transformation Team to lead an ambitious strategic programme to enhance the staff and student experience through comprehensive organisational, process, system, and service improvements.

The Business Change Team is a collective of specialists passionate about designing a better future. We are creative thinkers who collaborate to explore, understand, define, and create solutions to address significant and complex opportunities across the University.

About the role
Reporting to the Director of Business Change and working in collaboration with fellow Leaders within the Transformation team, as well as key stakeholders across the University, you will directly lead a team of design specialists to support a range of strategic change projects from the Transformation Portfolio.

You’ll work closely alongside the Process Improvement, Continuous Improvement, and Automation teams, as well as other internal and external partners, to prioritise user-centric design and delivery of cohesive service improvements that prioritise user needs.

Utilising your wealth of design tools and techniques, you will promote innovative working practices, organisational reform, and cultural change amongst key stakeholders and the wider University community, and encourage best practice, innovation, and efficiency, by benchmarking and understanding current trends and new developments in service design.

About you
The successful candidate will be a strong leader with extensive experience in service design, a deep understanding of the latest service design trends and technologies, and a proven track record of managing and mentoring a diverse team of service designers and user researchers. You will be adept at rolling up your sleeves when necessary, but also able to drive the overall development and implementation of service design strategies to improve user experiences across all student and staff touchpoints.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns.

Please Note: If you are a current employee of the University of Glasgow, please be advised that the University would consider an internal secondment opportunity for this post. University of Glasgow applicants should seek clearance for release for internal secondment from their line manager before making a formal application.

Informal enquiries should be directed via email to Ciara Lightbody Ciara.Lightbody@glasgow.ac.uk

Closing Date: 23:45 on Sunday 21st July 2024

As part of Team UofG, you will be a member of a world-changing, inclusive community, which values ambition, excellence, integrity and curiosity.

As a valued member of our team, you can expect:
1 A welcoming and engaging organisational culture, where your talents are developed and nurtured, and success is celebrated and shared.
2 An excellent employment package with generous terms and conditions including 41 days of leave for full time staff, pension, benefits and discount packages.
3 A flexible approach to working.
4 A commitment to support your health and wellbeing.

Applications are particularly welcome from across our communities and in particular people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented within the University.
