Summary

To support the Simulation Faculty with high-fidelity simulation training to the junior doctors. All the post holders will be trained as Simulation Faculty To undertake some form of formal training in Medical Education and teaching methods. Places are held on the University of Birmingham PG Certificate of Medical Education course for all the Clinical Teaching Fellows associated with their Medical School. It is expected that you will attend this course and this will be supported through leave and course fees by the Trust. As outlined above, this is a diverse teaching role focused upon surgical simulation education. It is expected that the post-holder will deliver teaching sessions to include technical surgical skills and non-technical simulation. The post holder will be required to utilise skills to support skill and knowledge acquisition and development of a variety of candidates. The successful candidate should also demonstrate leadership skills, the ability to communicate affectively and work to an excellent standard within the multidisciplinary clinical and educational team. The post holder will also take responsibility for maintaining a clinical portfolio of practice through engaging in regular clinical activity to maintain clinical competence as discussed and agreed with line management and clinical supervisors. To work closely with the Postgraduate Medical Education teaching leads to audit, develop and improve the teaching offered by the Trust. This may be through an audit or piece of research into the teaching activities. The post-holder will have an educational supervisor to support development in delivering simulation-based surgical education, following completion of the trust faculty development framework. Support will also be offered to complete a qualification in medical education. There is an expectation of collating all current data in simulation, analysis of work with the opportunity to present work at local, national or potentially international conferences.
