Summary

This role has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.


This is an 18-month fixed term contract or secondment opportunity.

We are excited to be hiring a new Information Governance Officer to join our fantastic Children's Information Governance Team. The team is based Woking and we blend both home and office working, at present we come together as a team in the office for two days a week, usually on a Wednesday and Thursday (this may be subject to change).

About the Team

The Children's Information Governance team handle a wide variety of Information requests such as: Subject Access Requests under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, Court Orders, Police Investigations and Operations, Freedom of Information requests and more. We also deliver advice, training and guidance to staff across the Children's, Families, Life-Long Learning Directorate.

About the Role

This is a very varied and interesting role, where no two days are the same. Some of the tasks you will be involved in will include:

  • Reading and redacting: This will be a very important element of your role, therefore you will need to be very focussed with an excellent eye for detail
  • Covering the duty inbox queries and telephone enquiries on a rota: These queries and calls come from both internal and external stakeholders so you will need to give timely, clear and effective advice
  • Using the electronic document and case management systems in operation in Children's Services, while demonstrating an understanding of confidentiality

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting, you CV and personal statement will need to evidence the following:

  • An understanding of legislation such as the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR and the Freedom of Information Act 2000
  • A proven knowledge of redaction: We can only disclose data within the parameters of relevant legislation
  • Excellent time management skills: You will take responsibility for managing your own caseload, ensuring your deadlines are met. We work to set timeframes to comply with legislative deadlines
  • Ability to work flexibly: You may be assigned to undertake different tasks within the Information Governance team in order to meet service needs
  • A meticulous eye for detail: We work with highly sensitive, complex and confidential data on a daily basis
  • Excellent communication skills: Keeping an open dialogue with all stakeholders throughout the process is essential as you will be working closely with other departments and external agencies
  • Good general level of IT skills including Outlook, Word and Excel
