Your new school
Hays are recruiting a Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant in Cardiff for a Special Educational Needs School which caters for pupils aged 3 - 11 with a variety of varied additional learning needs, as well as some related aspects of challenging behaviour, with the majority of students possessing a statement of additional needs. The role itself shall consist of working as a general Classroom Teaching Assistant, supporting small groups of students aged between 5 and 7 with varying levels of additional needs, including some students who are non-verbal and possess severe learning difficulties and aspects of challenging behaviour relating to these. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-respected and much-loved local school, known for its high standards of teaching and welcoming staff.
Your new role.
The role is confirmed long-term for a September start, working 5 days a week. Additionally, there are similar positions within this school, as well as a sister school, with part-time working hours. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working with small groups of students aged 5-7 with varying additional learning needs and some aspects of challenging behaviour.
  • Creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for children.
  • Assisting teachers as they implement their creative and engaging lesson plans.
  • Working closely as part of a team of 1 teacher and 3 teaching assistants.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour.


What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include enthusiasm, calmness, dedication, patience, and the ability to solve problems effectively when working under pressure.
