An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced senior occupational therapist to become part of the hand therapy service at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust. You will have experience of treating simple and complex hand injuries and rheumatology conditions.

In addition to being a major trauma centre, we are a regional plastic surgery unit and the team supports and works closely with the plastic surgeons, trauma and orthopaedic surgeons, and the rheumatology consultants.

We work closely with our physiotherapy colleagues and other MDT members, and also have links with other hand units in the Warwickshire area.

Our hand therapy service covers both Coventry and St. Cross hospital at Rugby, so there is potential for cross-site working as part of this role.

• Manage a caseload of patients with varying diagnosis and or /complex needs, using evidence based/ client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a defined clinical area.
• Ensure development of junior staff through supervision, training and annual appraisal
• Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical practice & service development within area.
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Therapy service.
• Take a lead for information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.

You should be highly motivated, passionate about hand therapy and providing excellent patient care. Good interpersonal skills are essential, and we are looking for someone with fieldwork educator experience, who is committed to supporting future service developments within the department. The team is friendly, supportive, and will help you in your own professional and personal development.

The role will include:
• Hand therapy following surgery or injury both on the wards and in an outpatient setting
• Wound care
• Static and dynamic splinting
• Attendance at hand clinics
• Treatment of outpatients with rheumatological conditions individually and in group situations.

• Carry out treatment, using a broad variety of modalities and clinical reasoning to allow selection of the most appropriate technique evaluating, modifying and recording all interventions and outcomes & adapting them to meet the needs of the patient.
• Use highly developed manual treatment skills requiring coordination, sensation & dexterity.
• Assist in the production and deliver an annual report specific to own clinical area & participate in the delivery of the therapy business plan.
