To provide high-quality care and leadership within St Georges University Hospital NHS Foundation and across all relevant sites inclusive of Croydon University Hospital, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, Kingston Hospital and Outreach Sites across the ODN.

. The Lead ViralHepatitis Nurse works closely with the Consultant Hepatologists, other Viral / Hepatology CNS’s, ODN manager and Pharmacists as part of the multi- disciplinary team. This to ensure that patients with Viral Hepatitis C and B receive the highest standard of care and support from time of diagnosis through to treatment and follow up as appropriate.

It is anticipated that the Viral Hepatitis Service and the ODN will develop over the next few years for example playing a larger role in community settings. The CNS post holder will need to be flexible as we plan to expand and extend our services. This is with the aim of eradicating hepatitis C by the year 2030 alongside developing services for patients diagnosed with hepatitis B through emergency department testing.

The post holder will be required to work largely in outpatient settings both with in the hospital and community settings. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop specialist clinics for Hepatitis B and C within community outreach settings and hospitals. The postholder will be expected to contribute to the strategic direction of the services within the ODN and subsequent structures as the Lead Viral Hepatitis CNS. Experience of viral hepatitis is essential.

The Lead Viral Hepatitis Nurse will take on the line management of 3 Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists providing support, education, and development of the team.

With nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, they are the largest healthcare provider in southwest London.

Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s Hospital also hosts the St George’s, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region.

As well as acute hospital services, they provide a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people.

The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.
