Job Role:
We seek a passionate and experienced Visiting Lecturer in Newspaper Publishing Journalism to join our vibrant team. As a Visiting Lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons in newspaper publishing journalism to our post-16 SEND learners. Your primary duties will include:

Planned and delivered interactive and hands-on teaching sessions in newspaper publishing journalism, covering various aspects such as news writing, reporting, interviewing techniques, editing, layout design, and digital journalism.
Providing personalised guidance and support to students to help them develop essential journalistic skills, critical thinking, research abilities, and ethical journalism practices.

Organising practical workshops and projects to give students real-world experience in writing news articles, conducting interviews, editing content, and producing newspapers both in print and digital formats.
Incorporating current events, media trends, and industry developments into the curriculum to keep students informed and engaged with contemporary journalism practices.
Assessing student progress through practical assignments, newspaper projects, editorial work, and peer evaluations, and offering constructive feedback to foster their growth and development.

Collaborating with colleagues to enhance the newspaper publishing journalism curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry standards and providing opportunities for student progression and career pathways.
Creating opportunities for students to showcase their work, publish articles, and contribute to BCI's newspaper publications and online platforms.
Requirements:

A relevant degree or professional qualification in journalism, media studies, communications, or a related field.

Proven experience and expertise in newspaper publishing journalism, including news writing, editing, layout design, digital journalism, and multimedia storytelling.
Strong communication, writing, editing, and research skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
Passion for journalism and a commitment to promoting press freedom, media literacy, and ethical journalism practices.

Understanding of the unique needs and learning styles of SEND learners, or a willingness to undergo training in this area.
Experience in digital media, social media management, and online publishing platforms is desirable.
