Senior Engineer (HV Cables)

Murphy is currently recruiting a Senior Engineer to join our award-winning team known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Senior Engineer will support a portfolio of energy transition design projects. The candidate shall manage the delivery of safe, practical, and economic designs for internal and external clients to a high standard of professional competence, in compliance with Company procedures, recognised standards and current legislation.

Murphy Applied Engineering is an in-house multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, implementing the 'Better Engineered' judicious driver to achieve smart, safe, and constructible solutions, covering the full range of energy sectors including natural gas, CO2, hydrogen and power transmission. The design team provide a design consultancy services on both internal and for external clients throughout the design lifecycle.

What you will be doing:

- Developing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
- Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design
- Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports
- Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
- Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations and other.
- Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
- Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
- Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality. 

Who are we looking for?

- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering 
- Detail design Experience of HV cabling projects 
- Co-ordination of HV Cable Works design and interfaces throughout project lifecycle including development of drawings & calculations  
- An understanding of the commercial and technical issues in undertaking a large-scale construction project
- Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines
