Summary

An opportunity for an Apprentice Transport Planning Technician (Level 3) to join our growing team in Bristol, BS1 4UA, in September 2024.

Transport planning helps develop the future shape of our towns and cities, considering how transport will link people with places. And that includes encouraging sustainable modes of transport wherever possible to replace journeys by car. Working through the planning process and beyond, we communicate complex issues to the public, developers and politicians to help sustainable development happen. This is a BTEC Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship and on entry you will have at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 - 4 (A*-C) including English, Mathematics and Science or their equivalent. On successful completion of the apprenticeship and the end-point assessment, you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) and MCIHT. It is also mapped to the Transport Planning Society’s Professional Development requirements offering the opportunity to access a work-based route to a career as a professional transport planner. The typical duration is between 24 - 36 months and is delivered as a block release in person or blended learning programme, with a mandatory end-point assessment.

What you will be doing (with the guidance and support of colleagues):

- Assisting in developing designs for highway layouts and Active Travel Routes, for concept and preliminary design.
- Production of AutoCAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings
- Supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records
- Assisting with data review and analysis, such as traffic flows and collision information.
- Contributing to providing solutions to problems
- Assisting with site visits to collect information or observe existing situations
- Working collaboratively within your team and with others on multidisciplinary projects
- This is primarily a desk-based role, working together with a diverse team, out of high-quality office space in Bristol, with occasional site visits. Locally based early career colleagues include two 2024 intake Apprentices and a 2024 intake Graduate.

What you will need:

- No work experience is necessary
- Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
- Demonstrate and articulate your motivation to become a transport planning technician
- Aptitude and interest for working in AutoCAD
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects
- Highly accurate/ high attention to detail
- Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic
