Summary
The post holder will be part of the Family Integrated Care (FIC) Team and will be specifically responsible for providing support and clinical expertise within the Neonatal Unit in all aspects of infant feeding.
The post holder will promote the uptake and duration of breastfeeding and be responsible for the training and education of all health professionals, providing specialist advice and support to women with feeding issues and share specialist knowledge with other groups and agencies. Together with the AHP Lead, you will lead, implement and evaluate UNICEF programs and initiatives that ensure best practice standards and ensure maintenance and sustainability of our UNICEF BABY FRIENDLY accreditation.
1. Provide specialist expertise and advice in the clinical areas with regards to infant feeding alongside practical help where necessary.
2. Monitor and maintain standards of care in accordance with the Trust policies, Guidelines, Protocols and Professional Regulations. Contribute to the development of clinical governance systems and structures, ensuring clinical area representation as appropriate
3. Contribute to and support clinical effectiveness and innovative practice within the provision of care
4. Develop and undertake clinical audit. Evaluate local services against national standards/recommendations to ensure we deliver evidenced based care and best practice including establishing and implementing protocols and guidelines for the trust. Take the lead in ongoing BFI audit as per guideline.
5. Co-ordinate and support the development of services that promote and increase breastfeeding rates and support mothers to continue to breast feed.
6. Respond to relevant Clinical Incident Reports and develop strategies to address deficits in practice
7. Adopt a multi professional approach to care with mothers, families, health care professionals and other agencies and organisations eg UNICEF, Bliss
