Summary
Street Scene & Waste Operative – GRADE C
Reports to: Assistant Team Leader
Work style Definition: Mobile worker
Job Type: Frontline Worker
Primary purpose of role:
To keep the city and local environment clean, tidy and adequately maintained with minimum disruption to residents and the public in compliance with relevant environmental legislation.
Key accountabilities and key measures:
Role outcomes
• Removal of waste or recycling from residential and business properties and public land/highway in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines and Codes of Practice. Carry out ground’s maintenance and cleansing as directed in a safe working manner within Codes of practice. (80%)
• Responsible for cleaning locations where spillages and split bags have taken place
and responsible for safe removal of hazardous substances. Ensure areas are left clean and tidy after collections /operations, including replacement of bins. (15%)
• Report unsafe working practices to line manager. (5%)
Role measures
• Compliant with rules in Codes of Practice including Highway Code regulations
• Completion of set tasks and duties within given timescales.
• No reportable accidents within the workplace
• Completion of tasks and duties in compliance with environmental legislation
• Waste recorded and disposed in safe manner in line with relevant legislation.
Essential qualifications/ knowledge:
• Functional skills in English and Maths level 1, and/or the ability to follow
straightforward oral and written instructions and keep basic work records,
• Knowledge of Health and Safety in an operational environment
• Knowledge of customer care standards
• Knowledge of Road Traffic Legislation and Safety
• Knowledge of recycling materials
• Trained in Manual Handling.
Desirable qualifications/ knowledge:
• Functional skills in English and Maths Level 2, or equivalent
• Knowledge of waste and recycling collection service
• NVQ Level 2 Waste Management
• Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and COSHH
• Knowledge of Street Cleansing service
• Knowledge of vehicle safety within a front line service area
• Full driving licence.
Essential experience:
• Experience of labouring work or heavy manual work
• Experience in delivering high standards of customer care.
• Experience of working in a waste-based environment
• Experience of undertaking a variety of manual tasks in a recycling facility.
• Experience of Health & Safety in an operational environment
Hours Per Week: 37.00

End Time: 16:15
Pay: £12.18 per hour
