An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen at Torness Power Station to join our highly skilled and motivated Engineering Department as a System Engineer.The opportunitySystem Engineers are responsible for the long-term reliability of the plant, maximising system reliability and availability while maintaining safety and compliance. You will analyse breakdowns and system performance, develop short to long-term improvement plans for both reactive and proactive improvements. You will define and refine the maintenance policy on your assigned systems. You will also actively participate in the work planning process providing engineering technical input as required ensuring prioritisation of work is based on the importance of equipment and its potential impact on plant performance. You will identify the statutory outage work scope and support delivery.All roles within Engineering are vital to ensuring safe and reliable operation during our journey through Generation, Defueling and Decommissioning.Pay, benefits and cultureWe’re offering a starting salary typically £40,069 to £71,779. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences and qualification. The full salary range for the role is £40,069 to £84,892. What you’ll be doingBe a responsible engineer for assigned plant areas and act as the technical conscience for the assigned systems.

- Gain expertise in the assigned system(s) and provide technical advice.
- Ensure important equipment is identified and that correct preventative maintenance programmes are in place to prevent unanticipated equipment failures.
- Manage activities that are to be carried out and completed with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and location directives, procedures and safety rules.
- Monitor and review system performance to identify degrading trends.
- Identify improvements on the assigned system(s) and work with our station teams and contract partners to make these happen
- Determine required actions and investments, including specifying, upgrading and deploying new components, systems and technologies.
- The engineering department is responsible for delivering the station’s multi million pound plant investment plan and as a system engineer you will be key to supporting this.


Who you areWe are seeking an enthusiastic individual who will have a nuclear and conventional safety focus in all activities and responsibilities undertaken. You will also have the ability to maintain knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards. Liaising with peers in other engineering groups within the fleet, you will be required to share best practises and to continually improve local and fleet performance. You will be motivated and be happy working on your own and as part of a team.

- You will have an Engineering background with relevant experience in industry; experience in the nuclear industry or conventional power generation would be beneficial. We are particularly interested in people with a Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) background but will happily consider applicants with experience in other disciplines.
- You will have skills that translate to working on a large industrial site with a number of interacting systems. Typical systems involve:

- Pumps, motors, compressors, turbine, generator and other rotating machinery
- Main steam boilers. Heat exchangers
- Pipework systems for steam, water, gases, and a range of chemicals
- Control and instrumentation systems ranging from simple 4-20mA to automated control processes. This includes PLCs, relay logic and pneumatic systems.
- ELV through to HV DC and AC electrical systems including UPS and battery systems, switchgear and transformers.


- As a minimum, entrants will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent). Candidates with a relevant Degree may have an advantage.
- Communication, interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and organisational skills.
