Summary

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for an enthusiastic individual to join the authority’s Youth Service team and help provide mentoring, support, information and guidance to vulnerable young people and/or currently, or at risk of becoming, NEET.

As a Youth and Community Worker you will provide support to young people to identify their personal barriers and help to plan and develop opportunities to overcome these.

You will develop strong links with education, inclusion and other agencies in order to help meet the needs of the young person and to help overcome their barriers.

As this post is agile, you will have the ability to undertake the role within Youth Service settings and at home as well as other young people’s settings across the Borough.

Essential to the role is a relevant professional qualification in Youth Work and the ability to register as a ‘Youth Worker’ with the EWC (Wales). Previous experience of working with at vulnerable young people, including the delivery of mentoring & support, is also essential.

If you have studied Youth Work as part of a qualification that would allow you to be registered as a ‘Youth Worker’ with the EWC and it is not clearly identified in the qualifications title, please state in your application what was undertaken and to what level.

Required skills include;

excellent interpersonal / communication skills with the ability to relate to and enthuse young people,
the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team,
the ability to assess the needs of young people and develop appropriate action plans and
a high level of personal resilience, including the ability to manage conflict and deal with stressful situations.
This post can also be offered as a secondment opportunity. Before applying for this as a secondment opportunity, candidates should seek approval to be released from their current post by their Line Manager. Secondments are available to permanent staff of the Authority only.
