General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a Safety Principal Engineer to join our established Engineering Team. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £69,600 to £87,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. Joining an established team based at our South Wales facility, you will work across a range of stakeholders, in the conduct of system safety, environmental and legislation engineering activities covering the complete safety programme life cycle.If you were already working in this position, this is what you would have been working on this week:- Support a subcontractor with the generation of the product safety case and other safety related documentation
- Ability and demonstrated ability to both work as part of and manage a team
- Active engagement with engineering teams to ensure safety related information is at the required level of maturity for the stage of the programme
- Provide support to hazard identification, hazard analysis, OSHA, OHHA, Zonal and Common Cause Analysis
- Develop and present ALARP justifications
- Support and review of Safety, Environmental and Legislation artefacts
- Familiar with safety analysis techniques and tools, including FMECA, FFA, FTA, ETA, GSN/CAE, hazard logs and Cassandra©
- A safety engineer with significant experience who has undertaken system safety assessments on major UK defence programmes through to certification and customer approval for use within military land system applications
- Experience in producing Safety Cases in accordance with DEF STAN 00-56, JSP 454, JSP520 and POSMS at System level including all primary sub-systems
- Demonstrated experience in producing compelling system safety arguments and associated reports
- Derivation and setting of appropriate safety criteria/requirements
- Undertaking hazard identification, hazard analysis and risk assessment to include HAZOP, SWIFT, FMEA(CA), FTA, ETA, GSN/CAE techniques
- Producing and assessing tolerability and ALARP arguments
- Familiar with recognised standards and procedures including, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, JSP 375, JSP 815
- Understanding and application of safety and general purpose tool sets, e.g.:
- FaultTree+, Cassandra , Adelard ASCE and MS Office tools
- The ability to audit suppliers against for instance IEC 61508 and /or ISO 26262.
