Summary


The Release Manager is responsible for the design and development of processes, procedures and ways of working that will assist infrastructure developers with their planning and building of hardware and software releases. Responsibility will also be held for the configuration and testing of hardware and software components (collection of changes) for live environments. This work involves interaction with the IT Infrastructure development, support & project teams to understand current issues and to ensure consistent packaging of releases. Develop and champion any new release management processes, ensure the business and IT understand the benefits and change/release schedule, and coordinate communication of all changes to stakeholders. Good knowledge of Tanium software deployment tool, software packaging, patching and scripting is required.

• Plays a leading role in scheduling installation work, liaising with all concerned to ensure that installation priorities are met and disruption to the organisation is minimised; agreeing exact content and rollout plan with the Project Manager, Change Manager or Senior Infrastructure Analyst prior to any release with the Change Management Process
• Responsible for all delegated activities and decisions, making reference to the Service Delivery Manager only by exception
• Work with cross-sections of the IT Services department and relevant stakeholders to prepare and publish release schedules including timelines and milestones
• Prepare, issue and manage deployment plans and communication cascades in support of live implementation
• Proactively monitor progress throughout all stages from scope, analysis through to testing and sign-off, implementation and post-live support
• Estimates and plans the workloads ensuring all project work is carried out within the definitions of Prince 2 project methodology processes
• Continually developing sufficient business skills and release management processes in order to play an active part in the wider policy making and overall management of IM&T within the Trust
• Provide regular reports to senior management and other stakeholders

• Responsible for the development of desktop hardware installation procedures
• Interact with other cross-functional sections of the IT department to ensure that all releases are completed in line with developed Operational Level Agreements (OLA)
• Responds to instructions or follows agreed plans to install or remove items of hardware and/or software (typically those requiring greatest expertise in installation); finds the necessary items and checks that these are as described in the instructions or plans
• Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools; following any agreed standards. Agrees the timing of the work with those affected
• Conducts tests of the hardware and/or software affected using supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools. Corrects malfunctions, calling on other experienced colleagues and external resources if required. Documents results in accordance with agreed procedures
