Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
The focus of the post will be to support staff in schools and academies across Portsmouth to meet the needs of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs within mainstream settings. Support from MABS Lead Teacher Advisors is needs led and flexible, following a model of assess – plan – do – review. The post will be based at The Harbour School Outreach Service. The functions of the post broadly involve the following:
- Support to school staff regarding the assessment of and effective intervention for pupils with SEMH Needs
- Consultation, coaching and supervision for school staff in trauma informed and relational based approaches, providing clear strategies and resources for classroom practice.
- Evidence based training for school staff and other work to develop the capacity of schools to better understand and meet the needs of children and young people with SEMH needs.
- Assessing, tracking, reviewing, and reporting on the needs and progress of pupils
- Taking a lead role in assessing, supporting, monitoring and further developing whole school approaches for supporting children with SEMH Needs across Portsmouth (reviewing and developing school policies, practice, and culture).

The Harbour School Outreach Service is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join the Multi-Agency Behaviour Support (MABS) Service as a Lead Teacher Advisor. MABS is a fully traded service, consisting of a team of experienced Lead Teacher Advisors and Pupil and Family Practitioners, supporting children and young people, families, and schools with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
MABS uses a trauma informed relationship-based approach to promote and develop SEMH so that all children and young people can flourish in our school communities and successfully remain or reintegrate into mainstream education.
