Summary
Candidates are expected to have a PhD which contains a significant use of applied statistical methods.
In addition, candidates should possess strong programming skills in at least two major statistical software languages, with a willingness and flexibility to learn to program in other statistical software packages, as required. You should have good communication skills, possess initiative, and be able to work effectively within teams of different sizes, disciplines and which potentially comprise team members from a range of organisations (e.g. academic, NHS, funding bodies). The ability to engage with clients in a statistical consulting scenario is essential.
The Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Wessex is an organisation funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) with a remit to support applied health and care research that responds to, and meets, the needs of local populations and local health and care systems. The NIHR ARC Wessex is one of 15 ARCs across England, part of a £135 million investment by the NIHR to improve the health and care of patients and the public within and beyond the Wessex region.
Our ARC conducts applied health research with the aims to improve outcomes for patients and public; improve quality, delivery and efficiency of health and care services; increase the sustainability of health and care systems locally and nationally, through collaborative partnership. We have a close relationship with our stakeholders within the region, which include a wide range of NHS organisations, local universities, charities, local authorities and others.
The successful applicant should be willing to travel within the Wessex area, as required, and occasionally further afield within the UK.
