We are seeking an experienced leader to join our management team. You need to be a dynamic and assertive person with a keen sense of insight and ability to innovate and initiate change. You must have a proven track record working at a Band 6 level in a critical care environment.
You will join a team of Band 7 nurses and a Band 8a and will take responsibility for your own team of junior staff and therefore you must have excellent clinical and leadership skills. You will have some involvement in audit, as well as supporting the unit's Clinical Nurse Manager. You will be expected to review audits and recommend actions to improve our service.
• To promote and demonstrate contemporary and proactive approaches to intensive care nursing practice and in collaboration with education links facilitate the advancement of this practice.
• To take responsibility for the strategic leadership of a Nursing Team, including personnel, financial and information resources
• To be actively involved with the development of robust audit and data collection as dictated by the unit, Trust, Network and National requirements e.g. ICNARC, CCMDS, Infection Control and those agreed by the Clinical Nurse Manager and Unit Clinical Lead.
• Establish an effective feedback system to inform the multi-professional team of work in progress, results and actions required.
• Assist in preparing reports for Unit, Directorate and Trust level.
• Work with the Matron to manage strategic planning for Neuro ITU, taking operational responsibility for the effective utilisation of relevant intensive care resources.
• Collaborate with the multi-professional team and provide direction and example for professional nursing practice.
The Neuroscience ICU is a busy Multi-Trauma Critical Care Unit located in a purpose built facility at the Oxford University NHS Foundation Trust, based at the John Radcliffe site. It comprises of a 15 bedded mixed level unit providing specialist services for neurosurgery, neurology, trauma and specialist surgery. The case mix is varied caring for patients requiring level 2 and level 3 support, with a mix of emergency and elective cases.

• In collaboration with other senior nurses, develops the Neuro ICU operational and organisational structure to optimise the service to meet activity demands
• Actively participates in the collaborative approach to strategic planning that ensures the Neuro ICU service plan accounts for patient and service needs.
• Directs supports and facilitates nursing team and Neuro ICU project work, research and contributes to practice development.

• Promotes the Neuro ICU Nursing Philosophy in clinical practice.
• Demonstrates expert knowledge and skills in the management of the complex and changing health care needs of the critically ill patient, integrating theory and practice.
