The successful candidate will have a First Class or Upper Second Class Biological Sciences degree and as a minimum post graduate requirement have achieved or be about to achieve completion of the ACE Certificate in Clinical Embryology or the National School of Healthcare Science NHS Scientist Training Program (STP) in Reproductive Science, Embryology. Applications from candidates with or close to attainment of HCPC registration would be preferred (please indicate in your application when you intend to submit your portfolio). Ideally, he/she will have substantial hands on embryology experience and be a licensed ICSI practitioner. Opportunities for further training and research would be encouraged and supported. The position is a permanent position which will require some weekend and out of hours work on a rotational basis and will have on call responsibilities. Main responsibilities: 1. To participate in the provision of clinical embryology and andrology services, including oocyte identification and culture, IVF or ICSI insemination. Micromanipulation. Identification of normal and abnormal fertilisation. Culture and assessment of preimplantation embryos, including grading of blastocysts, embryo transfer procedures, gamete and embryo cryopreservation and thawing. Gamete and embryo vitrification and warming. 2. Contribute to scientific decisions demanded by the service, including making decisions on patients clinical treatments. 3. Preparation of sperm for clinical treatments, including intrauterine insemination of patients, both patient samples and donor sperm. Cryopreservation of semen samples for AssistedConception patients and Oncology patients, including surgical retrieval of sperm and subsequent preparation and freezing. 4.To participate in the supervision and day to day running of the andrology laboratory. 5. Diagnostic semen analyses, communication of results of diagnostic semen analyses to nursing staff, clinicians, GPs and other service users, offer advice regarding appropriate treatment and further tests if required. 6. Advise patients on methods of semen collection, including those cases of suspected retrograde ejaculation. 7. To apply personal scientific skills and highly specialised technical expertise at the highest professional level in the full range of routine and specialised investigations and clinical procedures demanded by the service provided by the Centre for Reproductive Medicine. 8. Maintenance and audit of cryopreserved samples including donor semen, semen stored for patients own use and cryopreserved embryos, to include monitoring the alarm system.
