Crynodeb
Aston Medical School took its first intake of students in 2018 and has already earned a positive reputation for its patient-centred curriculum enabling students to develop the core competencies in medicine in a more innovative and dynamic environment. As our Dean of Medical Education and Deputy Dean of Aston Medical School you will have a unique opportunity to provide leadership for the strategic development and operation of the education agenda as well as lead the School into the next phase of growth and innovation.
You will lead a review of the vision, direction and strategy of education with a focus on enhancing and growing our programme offerings beyond the current three programmes: MBChB, BSc (Adult Nursing) and MSc (Physician Associate Practice). Much of this development and expansion requires innovative thinking in partnership with our NHS Local Education Providers and taking account of the University and College priorities, the professional regulatory framework, and national political and financial opportunities.
The successful candidate will evidence inspiring and empathetic leadership with profound pedagogical understanding to support and further develop the team to meet the challenges of expanding the programmes in innovative ways. The post is open to doctors who are registered and in good standing with the General Medical Council, and with a licence to practise. We would welcome applications from individuals who wish to maintain part of their time within clinical practice and where relevant, the appointment will be made at the appropriate clinical grade and salary, dependent on qualifications, experience, and any ongoing clinical responsibilities that are undertaken via a joint appointment.
If a clinical appointment is made the successful applicant will work on a joint University-Trust contract: the substantive role being held within their current Trust, and an honorary contract being awarded by the University. This joint appointment will be subject to the agreement of the substantive employer. It is therefore essential that interested applicants discuss their application and time commitment with their Clinical Director and others in the Trust as advised by their Clinical Director before interview.
