Critical Care in East Kent is at an exciting period of redevelopment, having attracted national in-vestment to significantly expand capacity and grow our service.
East Kent Critical Care operates across three units: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate (9 beds), and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital (8 beds) and the William Harvey Hospital (expanding to 24 beds).
This post is based at QEQM Hospital and it is designed for doctors who have completed foundation training who are looking to pursue a career in Anaesthetics or Intensive Care Medicine.
They will gain experience in the management of critically ill patients in a supportive environment whilst improving their CV in the area of interest of Research. Successful applicants will work under the close supervision of consultant intensivists and senior trainees. The department is very active in the following areas; teaching, research and point of care ultrasound and echocardiography.

The Junior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine at QEQM is responsible for managing critically ill patients in the ICU, emergency department, and hospital wards. Duties include admitting patients under Consultant supervision, ordering and interpreting tests, and ensuring safe handovers. The Fellow will participate in audits, safety meetings, multidisciplinary discussions, and a teaching program following the FICM syllabus.

Research is a significant part of the role, with opportunities to engage in studies like UKROX, MOSAICC, and SIGNET. Under Dr. Moustafa Shebl's guidance, the Fellow will contribute to NIHR portfolio studies, develop independent research projects, and engage in academic writing. Candidates interested in higher research degrees are encouraged to pursue this.

Professional commitments include completing Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, adhering to GMC guidelines, managing clinical risks, and effective communication.
