Summary

It is an exciting time to join our team. We have been selected by HEE KSS for the CESR project and received the CHKSS award for Patient Safety 2019. We have completed a £8 Million redevelopment of the Emergency Department which has produced a bespoke ED transforming the way we deliver Emergency and Urgent care to our local population. The team is flexible with several special interests such as point of care ultrasound (POCUS), teaching and simulation. We welcome new ideas and diversity and the Trusts focus is on empowering clinical leadership. The primary duties of the post are to see new patients within the ED, and to be an on-site source of advice, help and supervision for more junior doctors in the ED. This is a senior post and specialty doctors will be the doctor in charge of the department at night with a consultant on call from home after midnight. The successful candidate will be working on the Middle Grade rota (see below) and accountable to the EM Consultants. We expect for the candidate to have good leadership skills, ability to manage the Department, including flow through the ED. The successful candidate will have a dedicated mentor (supervisor) and 1 SPA for training, CPDs and quality improvement projects, plus budgeted study leave days. This is a programme which includes dedicated one-to-one mentoring and a course mapped on the GMC domains. Dedicated mentoring for CESR applicants by CESR Consultants will take you through the application process. Practical experience will be delivered via simulation and workshops where you are at the centre of the learning experience. The trust has experienced CESR consultants who will be available to give the successful candidates support, mentorship and coaching. The post is intended to provide the clinician with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process. Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is a leading modern general hospital and specialist centre for cancer services and treatment, based in Guildford. The Trust serves a population of 330,000 for emergency and general hospital services, mainly from West Surrey, East Hampshire and North Sussex and 1.3 million people for cancer services. The Trust celebrated its 150th birthday on 27 April 2016. We have good working relationships with Guildford and Waverley CCG, and Surrey Heartlands STP. As a NHS Foundation Trust, we have a 32-strong Council of Governors and over 8,000 public members. The hospital has an annual income of more than £200 million and employs around 3,500 people, making us one of Guildfords largest employers. Each year the Trust sees around 215,000 outpatients, admits 58,500 patients for treatment and 70,000 patients attend our Emergency Department. The Trust is also a centre of excellence and training for minimal access surgery and regional hub for ENT and pathology services. Please refer to the full job description attached.
