About the role

As the Head of Children’s Services, you will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the Social Services Directorate. Reporting to the Director of Social Services, your leadership will be instrumental in fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and excellence. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic plans, for statutory and preventative services including Families First, Flying Start, Early years and play provision. You will also be an active member of the South East Wales Regional Safeguarding Board and oversee the South East Wales Adoption Service. You will work closely with your team to ensure the well-being, safety, and positive development of children in our care.

You will be a mentor, advocate, and role model for your team. You will devise and implement staff training plans, promote career development, and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth. Collaboration and communication will be at the core of your approach, engaging with partner agencies, local communities, and stakeholders to build meaningful relationships and enhance the support network available to children and young people.

You will also influence policy and drive innovation in children’s services, ensuring that our practices align with the latest research and best practices in the field. Your strategic leadership will guide our efforts in creating a holistic and supportive environment for all children in our care.
