Pay rate: £12.00 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, 08:45 – 17:00

This opening assignment is for 3-4 months

A Personal Advisor is required to join the Care Leaver’s Team and support and advise young people leaving care by helping them to find suitable accommodation, assistance in budgeting and spending decisions, education, employment and training by undertaking a high-quality needs assessment and pathway plans alongside social workers and working with other multi agency partners. You will act as an advocate for young people and support them to make decisions for their future. You may be asked to travel and escort young people out of Sheffield and may have to work evenings and weekends as part of a rota, however additional payment will be made if you work out of hours.

Key responsibilities:

Undertake the statutory role of Personal Advisor to young people leaving care.
Undertake comprehensive and high-quality needs assessments of care leavers.
Participate in Looked After Children reviews where a child is under 18.
Work jointly with a social worker to complete and implement a pathway plan for young people under 18.
Complete comprehensive and high-quality pathway plans for care leavers over 18 and review these when necessary.
Coordinate the provision of services and take reasonable steps to ensure the young person makes use of such services.
Keep in touch with care leavers to monitor their progress and wellbeing, and ensure they are aware of the local offer for care leavers.
Keep full, accurate and up to date records of contacts with the young person and services provided.
Implement responsibly the service financial procedures and help care leavers develop financial capability. Support care leavers in developing independent living skills and provide advice on housing options, finding and maintaining education, training or employment and in accessing health services.
Act as an advocate for care leavers, recognising the particular challenges they face and your corporate parenting responsibility.

Qualifications:

NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum and willingness to undertake additional training and/or qualifications as required.



Experience:

Significant experience of working with young people leaving care or in a related field with experience of multi-agency planning with a basic understanding of the law relating to the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children and Social Work Act 2017.
Direct experience of working with looked after young people and young adults between ages 16 and 25.
Experience of multi-agency planning and joint working for looked after young people including some with more complex needs.



Knowledge:

Understanding of adolescence in relation to developmental, familial, social and environmental factors that impact on young people's wellbeing.
Basic understanding of the law relating to young people with an understanding of the legal framework and its practical implications.
Understanding of the law relating to client confidentiality.
Understanding of legislation relevant to leaving care e.g. Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and Children and Social Work Act 2017.
Awareness of the criminal justice system and the respective roles and responsibilities of youth justice services, HMPPS/CRC and children’s services.



Skills & Abilities:

An excellent communicator, understanding and encouraging resilience in young people.
Able to negotiate and resolve conflict and problems.
Ability to assess financial support needs and handle cash to provide immediate support to young people and assist them in budgeting and spending decisions.
Organisational and administrative awareness and competence.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
