Summary


This is an innovative post and you would be the first member of our rheumatology team to work across GIM and Rheumatology.



Rheumatology



The rheumatology aspect of the job will include taking joint responsibility for our early inflammatory arthritis service, including the NEIAA. The post holder will contribute to clinical oversight of the service, administration and training / mentoring of the EAC MDT members. The service has existing strong links to our academic team within the Musculoskeletal Research Group at Newcastle University. Experience of delivering translational research would therefore be considered advantageous, as would some experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound and/or temporal artery ultrasound though neither is considered essential.









Acute Medicine



The role will be a 2.5PA post on the Assessment Suite and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary as a General Medicine Consultant in addition to the job time within the Rheumatology department The successful applicant will join a team providing care to medical patients during the first 24 hours of their admission, and managing others as out-patients through SDEC. Applicants should have (or be expected to get within the next 6 months) a CCT in General Internal Medicine. The applicant will need to be to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

· The successful candidate will share responsibility for running and ensuring best practice in our early inflammatory arthritis service; ideally with capacity to support the MSUS component of the pathway.

· This will include supervision and training of junior doctors, clinical nurse specialists, clinical pharmacists, and AHP

· Set up and coordination/chairing of a formal EAC MDT

· There is also an opportunity to join the consultant led GCA FT pathway for an appropriately qualified applicant.

· Provision of long term care to an existing cohort of patients with inflammatory arthritis

· This successful candidate will join the current Acute Medicine consultant team in the day to day running of the Assessment Suite and Same Day Emergency Care. This will involve providing senior clinical decision-making early in patient pathways, supporting junior clinicians and providing consistent 7 day cover across the Acute Medicine department. The role also involves supporting educational activities for the undergraduate and postgraduate trainees within the acute medicine department and research, clinical governance and service development within the unit.
