Summary

Please note the advert may close early due to the number of applicants.

Come and join our forward thinking and supportive Ophthalmology team.

We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Specialty Doctor with independent out-patient clinic practice specialising in a range of Ophthalmology and Emergency sub-specialties. The ability to undertake macular injections is desirable. This includes partaking in the tier 1 on call (non resident) rota.

The department is a teaching environment supporting the educational and clinical development of junior trainees and non-medical teams (including Nurse Practitioners, ACPs, Orthoptists and Optometrists) to support their development within extended roles.

We are looking for an individual with specialist experience to provide new and follow-up out-patient clinics, across a range of Opthalmology, Medial Retina and Emergency eye care. Sub-specialty clinics will be discussed and agreed based on the experience of successful candidate and depending on service need.

The post holder will be part of the emergency eye clinic team undertaking outpatient clinics along with triage from primary care and internal ED departments across site.

There is also the expectation to join the tier 1 non-resident on-call rota and support ward rounds.

CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.

The Trust is currently one of the most digitised in the country. Along with using the upgraded MediSight since October 2023 and an electronic referral portal from community Optometry (EyeV) this makes us currently one of the most paper-light and digitised Ophthalmology Departments in the country.

The department is undertaking a number of transformational projects internally and working in partnership with WYAAT on a number of sub-specialty projects to standardise pathways of care. We also continue our collaborative working with local Optometrists and the CCG to deliver new and patient centred community schemes to meet the demands of our local population.

This is a permanent, full time post.

It is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated team comprising 17 Consultants, 7 Specialty and Trust Grade Doctors, 4 Specialty trainees, 2 qualified ACPs, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists and a substantial team of Ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants.

Please see the attached job description included within the advert.

The department also supports requests to undertake research studies and internal audit as required.

The department also benefits from an ECLO and a team of Failsafe Co-ordinators and schedulers, along with a supportive senior management team within the Head and Neck Directorate.
