We are very excited to be recruiting four trainee Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPS) within our Child and Adolescent Mental Health service (CAMHS). This is a new apprenticeship role open to graduate psychologists. Successful applicants will be employed by the Trust at band 5 and undertake masters level training at The University of East Anglia, whilst working as part of CAMHS in Barnet Enfield or Haringey Borough’s. The apprenticeship will enable the development of clinical skills and competencies that are essential to the role. On successful completion of the training phase, you will be employed within the trust on a permanent contract as a Clinical Associate Psychologist at band 6.



We are particularly interested in candidates from the Local Barnet, Enfield and Haringey communities. The applicants should have an undergraduate degree in psychology, preferably 2.1 and above and extensive experience of working with children, young people and families in the NHS and other sectors. They should preferably NOT have a masters in a mental health related field. The candidates will be expected to be able to reflect on their experience and how the course would support that process. The candidates will need to commit to studying the master’s program provided by University of East London, be able and willing to work face to face and remotely. They will also have to provide proof of GCSE /NVQ maths and English at interview.
1. Report to a Clinical Psychologist in terms of psychological assessment, formulation and intervention
2. Complement the work of Clinical Psychologists
3. Provide training to others to inform psychological interventions
4. Act as a psychological resource providing support, guidance and supervision using psychological models to the wider health or social care teams
5. Manage a caseload while undertaking their own clinical programmes of work, within their scope of practice
6. Be responsible for own learning and development using reflection and feedback to analyse their own capabilities
7. Meet their clinical psychology supervisor on a weekly basis in accordance with British Psychological Society (BPS) standards for accredited practice.
8. Undertake regular operational supervision with Team Manager/ nominated team member.
9. Learn the principles of leadership theory to influence best psychological practice when working in teams
10. Develop understanding of the importance and impact of organisational culture in service delivery and development
11. Understand the appropriate boundaries of professional competency in offering support and supervision and work within the scope of practice of the role and within the bounds of professional competence, in line with employer’s requirements around values, conduct and ethics
12. In all clinical and professional activities, act in accordance with the BPS Professional Code of Conduct, identifying and challenging discriminatory behaviour
