Summary
We are the Environment Agency. We create better places for people, wildlife and the environment. We put the climate emergency at the heart of everything we do and help society adapt to environmental challenges such as flooding, drought, sea level rise and coastal change. We improve and protect the quality of our air, land and water by tackling pollution.
We have 2 temporary posts within the Environment Portfolio Team. We’re looking for highly motivated individuals to aid the continued delivery of our flagship environmental grant schemes. As a programme support officer you will work with colleagues across the Environment Agency and with external partners to deliver lasting improvements to our water environment. The role involves a range of different tasks including:
• Supporting the administration of our Landscape Recovery (LR), Natural Environment Improvement Readiness Fund (NEIRF), Partnership Grants (PGs) and Catchment Host Fund grant schemes.
• Reviewing data and evidence supplied by grant agreement holders to assess delivery of environmental improvements and issue grant funds.
• Being a point of contact for external partners to assist with the management of their grant funded projects.
• Reporting on programme and grant scheme performance, forecasts and risks.
• Helping to develop new and improve existing programme management procedures for our grant schemes.
We will provide training on the job and support your development within the Environment Agency.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do in the Environment Agency. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
The Environment Portfolio team is part of the Portfolio Management Office (PMO). The PMO is responsible for allocating funding, managing and reporting on the Environment Agency’s flood risk management programmes, environment programmes and environmental grant schemes. We play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of our programmes of projects and grant schemes to protect as many properties as possible from flooding, improve the water environment and mitigate against climate change.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for an individual with a degree or equivalent, who is self-motivated, and able to demonstrate the following:
• Good organisational skills and an ability to work effectively in a team and independently to manage multiple priorities to meet short and long-term deadlines.
• Experience of managing complex data and information, and use of Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to clearly present information to technical and non-technical partners.
• A strong focus on providing good customer service.
• A proven ability to build effective working relationships.
The key things we’re looking for are transferrable skills and capabilities, so do not be put off applying if you don’t have a degree and/or you don’t have experience in this sector.
