Summary


Due to the expansion of the imaging and diagnostic services at the Brompton site the Bronchoscopy and Interventional Radiology team are currently seeking an adult trained band 6 nurse to assist with Bronchoscopy, Interventional Radiology. The clinical role will also enable you to develop your skills in other aspects of Interventional Pulmonology, Interventional Radiology and Recovery.

The Royal Brompton in Chelsea has a mixture of Diagnostic, Interventional Radiology (IR), Bronchoscopy and Recovery services.

We are looking to recruit band 6 nurse who have excellent care values, a strong sense of team spirit and are keen to develop their skills to join the Bronchoscopy, Interventional Radiology & Recovery Team.

1. Supporting and deputising for the Senior Nurse/Charge Nurse in the clinical management of the clinical area. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having the appropriate action in conjunction with the ward sister/charge nurse in emergency.
2. To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of a group of staff delegated by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
3. Direct the nursing care of other junior nurses, students and HCA’s to maintain a high standard of excellent nursing care on your duty shift.
4. To act as a role model and deputise for lead bronchoscopy nurses in their absence. Direct and support staff dealing with complex situations involved in patient care, initiating treatment and taking emergency action where appropriate.
5. To demonstrate a wide range of nursing expertise in areas of specialist nursing care.

We are a state-of-the-art Imaging Guided Therapy and Diagnostic unit, with a 5-bedded unit with chairs, to recover adult patients through stages of their recovery who have undergone Interventional Radiology procedures and complex bronchoscopies.

We will tailor induction and training to the individual candidate and provide support for those with minimal experience of caring for patients undergoing bronchoscopy, Interventional Radiology and post anaesthesia. New staff will be fully supported through our excellent induction and mentorship programme.

Nurses working within the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust are expected to abide by the essentials of nursing care (6 C's)

Main tasks and responsibilities
• Communication• Provide support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the Ward/Department and Trust wide. Assist in the programme and provide preceptorship and supervision as required, for all registered nurses.
• Delegate tasks and activities to a range of team members and evaluate outcomes in conjunction with the Ward/Department Manager and lead bronchoscopy nurses.
• Maintain and promote effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other Wards/Departments, including developing your formal presentation skills.
• To adapt communication skill to meet the needs of patients who may have barriers to understanding e.g. language.
• Promote the corporate image of the Hospital group to all individuals, groups and organisations both within the Trust and to the community at large.
• Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, including support staff to promote a cohesive ward team and the achievement of team objectives.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for colleagues, patients and visitors.
• To ensure self-development through own completion of Trust and specialist competencies as per the Trust educational policies, update through reading and contributing to update policies, procedures, guidelines and seeking clinical and knowledge advancement.
