Summary

Hull City Council’s Housing Access Service is a multi disciplinary service which provides a comprehensive housing advice and options designed to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping, help customers find realistic and sustainable housing solutions which meet their needs and allocates available council homes.
We are looking for an experienced Homelessness/Housing Options practitioner, with knowledge and practical experience of delivering homelessness advice services, to join us as a senior officer in our Homelessness Prevention and Options Team. Your role will include giving case advice to colleagues, making decisions on complex cases, overseeing wider team activity, improving practice and deputising for your team leader in their absence.
This is a new post which will initially be based within the hospital, working alongside partners in the homeless health team, to improve case outcomes for those being discharged from hospital who are homeless. You will hold a caseload of homeless applications but will also be responsible for identifying where existing processes can be improved to ensure that applications for homelessness assistance are made at the earliest opportunity, to reduce the number of people who are discharged to temporary accommodation or with no stable onward accommodation. You will lead on raising awareness and sharing knowledge with other professionals, be confident in making decisions within the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and the Housing Act 1996 and have the skills to explain these decisions clearly to customers and partners, whilst maintaining effective relationships with other professionals supporting the customer.
You will be flexible in your approach to work, as the role will likely involve working in other partner settings in the future in order to improve services for a wider range of customers, and therefore an important part of this role will be ensuring improvements to practice become embedded across services, with your guidance.
This is a hugely challenging but rewarding role, providing homelessness assistance to people at a time when affordable housing options are severely limited, demand far exceeds supply and as a result customer expectations often cannot be met.
If you have the relevant knowledge and experience and want to further your housing career in a more senior role in an evolving service, this may be the role for you.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Donna Tindall, Housing Options Manager on 07881785757 or email donna.tindall2@hullcc.gov.uk
