Summary

The Governance and Business Support team sits in the wider Private Office and Ministerial Support and Parliamentary Team (PO/MPST), which is one of the largest and most dynamic teams in DCMS involved in all aspects of departmental business.

PO/MSPT is part of the wider Corporate Strategy Directorate which leads on varied, high priority and cross-cutting policy areas across the Department. These include departmental strategy, fiscal events, and public bodies sponsorship and appointments.

Our team is crucial to the successful running of the Department. This role is responsible for supporting the Permanent Secretary and the department’s senior leadership team in robust decision making and ensuring that decisions are made at the right time and at the right level.

You will be part of a fast paced team, where you will need to engage regularly with the most senior parts of the department, have a good strategic eye, and build strong relationships across a number of different areas.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Effective leadership and management of the team (currently x3 HEO and x3 EO).
  • Oversee the delivery of DCMS departmental boards (including Departmental Board; Executive Board; Delivery and Risk Committee; People and Operations Committee; Finance Committee; Audit and Risk Assurance Committee) to enable robust decision making and ensure that decisions are made at the right time and at the right level.
  • Support the continuous improvement of our governance systems and processes, including improving knowledge across the department through effective communication; revising templates and guidance;
  • Provide support to the 5 Non-Executive Board Members (NEBMs), ensuring they are kept abreast of Departmental work and acting as a link between them and the Department.
  • Coordinate DCMS’s input into national security cross-government work.
  • Play a strong role in developing the culture of the Corporate Strategy Directorate, and oversee the business processes for the Directorate (including HR, workforce management, finance and business continuity, admin support to senior leadership).
