Summary

The Anaesthetic Department at William Harvey Hospital is looking to recruit a dynamic and conscientious individual to join our team of dedicated clinicians for a year.

William Harvey Hospital is a large district general hospital providing care for the diverse population across East Kent. The hospital provides surgical services for the regional head and neck cancer service, colorectal cancer and other specialties, including gynae, ENT, trauma surgery, breast, paediatrics and ophthalmology.

The job will include the pre, peri and post-operative management of surgical patients, including acute pain reviews. There is also an expectation that the successful candidate will be able to safely transfer critically ill patients between departments, sites and other hospital trusts. Learning and training opportunities will be offered in a wide variety of surgical specialties, including complex airway cases and regional anaesthesia and obstetrics

The successful applicant will be expected to provide safe anaesthetic care for a variety of surgical lists at William Harvey Hospital. Most elective lists will have consultant supervision, although there will be the opportunity to work more independently, with local supervision, depending on experience and competence. During the week CEPOD, obstetric sessions and most trauma lists are consultant led. There will be an opportunity to work on other sites in order to gain experience and competencies in other surgical specialties, based on personal experience and requirements and the clinical needs of the William Harvey department.

The role is 48 hours per week. The on-call commitment is currently arranged as a 1:8 full rota. There are always two junior anaesthetists covering all emergency work in WH, in CEPOD theatres, obstetrics and other areas of the hospital. There is collaborative working with our intensive care colleagues and a close relationship with ED.

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’.
