Summary
We are looking for a motivated, experienced and strategically focused individual to fill the role of Volunteering Services Manager on a fixed term basis to cover a current secondment. The key aim of the role will be to deliver on the strategic priorities of the volunteering service.
Main duties include line managing the volunteering managers at both sites to deliver operational and strategic priorities. These include the implementation of a new integrated operating model for volunteering, ensuring this is scaled at pace and the service is able to demonstrate impact and effectiveness.
To review, revise and develop the youth and volunteer to career pathways and ensuring the team continues to progress against the strategic objectives. As the Volunteer Services Manager, you will work with the team to set priorities and will take responsibility for reporting strategic and operational updates to senior and external stakeholders.

Managerial
1. Line manage the Volunteering Managers and oversee the service in line with the volunteering strategy and set trajectories for on-going volunteering activity.
2. Assume overall responsibility for alignment to the Trust’s volunteering policy and volunteering management systems.
3. Support the implementation of national and local NHS and voluntary sector initiatives as related to the Volunteering Service.
4. Ensure the integrated operating model for volunteering is expanded at scale and that impact measures are being gathered as part of the ongoing evaluation.
5. Oversee development of new volunteering initiatives.
Communications
6. Oversee communications and relationships with external stakeholders.
7. Work with the Communications Department and other colleagues to publicise and promote the impact and outcomes of volunteering and success stories to a broad range of stakeholders using the most suitable channels to continue to develop the Trust as a sector leader in the field of hospital volunteering.
8. Ensure the volunteering section of the Trust’s website is maintained and developed, in line with best practice, to promote the organisation’s volunteering efforts and to maximise the number and scope of volunteers.
Governance
9. Maintain and embed up-to-date knowledge of best practice and legislation surrounding volunteering in health settings and ensure there is effective governance in place for voluntary activities.
10. Report progress against the Volunteer Strategy to key committees such as Patient and Public Engagement and Experience Group (PPEEG), People and OD, the Workforce Development Committee, CW+ and other stakeholders and committees (including external) as required.
11. Reporting to CW+ on progress against the strategic objectives and new volunteer operating model.
12. Work closely with the Head of Patient Experience to ensure volunteering is of maximum benefit to patients.
Team Role / Staff Management
13. Ensure that the volunteering service maintains high levels of volunteer satisfaction, focussing on the volunteering experience and benefits to volunteers.
14. Provide expert leadership and management to the Trust’s Volunteering Services Team to ensure volunteers are effectively managed, trained and supported.
15. Ensure appropriate guidance and support is available to staff undertaking volunteer recruitment or supervision, within relevant legal frameworks and guidelines to enable consistent application of quality standards across the trust.
16. Lead the Volunteers’ Service team to ensure that standards are delivered and targets are achieved and be accountable for service delivery.
17. Provide staff and volunteer training as necessary.
Financial
18. To ensure effective and efficient use of all resources (staffing, capital within the Volunteering Service and for managing the overall budget and for achieving financial targets.
19. Manage effectively all the Service’s resources to ensure the efficient and effective use of resource
20. Identify and deliver areas of cash releasing efficiency savings against the CIP target against the Directorate Financial Plan
21. Lead the development of all annual revenue and bids for the Service ensuring that all appropriate information is collated, prioritized and submitted within given timescales. This may include writing bids to request external funding for roles such as the Butterfly volunteering manager, SEND manager and others as required.
22. Provide advice and support to staff to ensure Standing Financial Instructions are adhered to
23. Lead the relationship with key funders to ensure all funding criteria, project milestones and impact measures are achieved for volunteering projects and programmes.
Policy and service development
24. To lead the implementation of the Volunteering Strategy, designed to maintain and build the service through ongoing improvements, increasing our contribution and support of our diverse local community.
25. Lead the development across the Trust of all types of volunteering activity.
26. Work with other members of the Volunteering Services Team to identify areas of need for volunteering input aligned to patient, visitor and staff experience, strategic Trust priorities.
27. To identify opportunities for recruiting volunteers, corporate and public bodies and associated charities to ensure the trust’s volunteering requirements receive maximum benefit.
28. Lead on the development and implementation of volunteering standards to ensure confidence of patients and staff.
29. Identify eligible recognition and funding awards for volunteering and prepare submissions for eligible or new projects to a high standard
30. Network and contribute to relevant committees, reports and working groups to ensure the Volunteering Strategy is a visible resource to all staff and responsive to Trust needs.
31. Benchmark, test and implement innovative models of volunteering as informed by the Volunteering Strategy to ensure our programme has both a broad and deep reach into our local community, reflecting its diversity and voice.
