Summary
Our client Scottish Power are currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to join their team based in Glasgow on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer who has site experience. As well as this they would look for someone with experience commissioning electrical kit and/or experience with 33kv switchgear inverters. For more information on this role see below:
Job Purpose Statement
To support the Senior Electrical Engineer with project delivery and design technical specification relating to grid connection and HV & LV design of large-scale Onshore Wind, Solar PV and Energy Storage projects incorporating new technologies.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for undertaking assigned electrical engineering activities on and assisting the Senior Electrical Engineer to support delivery of the portfolio of new projects through the project delivery life cycle of concept, feasibility, consent, construction & commissioning across the Onshore business portfolio for projects such as:
• Wind farms (new build, repower, life extension, etc.)
• Other technologies (solar, battery storage, hybrid schemes, etc.)
The role will focus primarily on specification and design of the HV Electrical Infrastructure on all new sites. Draft equipment electrical ordering specifications from the design feed work and assist with placement of orders to the requirements and timescales of the project managers. The role will support the management of the process for obtaining new grid connections, from initial application through to commissioning and testing. Additionally, the role will assist with the generation and review of design proposals the supervision of consultants and subcontractors the drafting of user requirements definition of balance of plant control systems, infrastructure and their interfaces.
The individual will be working as part of the Onshore Projects & Construction Team. The position may require periods where the individual is site based during the construction phase of projects within the UK.
Accountability Statements
• Deputise for the Senior Electrical Engineer as required to support the business in their absence
• Undertake Electrical Engineering duties to support the Onshore Project Delivery requirements across New Business, Development, Design and Construction Delivery.
• Coordinate with the wider Iberdrola Global Technical Services department to support compliance and collaboration of Electrical Engineering resources for implementation of Iberdrola Global Best practice for the UK Electrical Engineering team
• Participate with, promote and engage positive H&S behaviours and competencies within the team to ensure high standards are achieved and maintained.
• Assist the Senior Electrical Engineer with coaching and mentoring of Graduate ElectricaI Engineers and other peer Engineers and participate with technical training activities.
• Assist the project teams with the process of developing, designing and constructing renewable energy assets, from initial application through to commissioning and testing.
• Undertake the delivery of assigned projects and assist in the development of technical schedules for inclusion within design, turbine and infrastructure contracts
• Liaise and coordinate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure delivery specifications are met providing input on appropriate tender assessments.
• Assist with technical input to commercial agreements and contracts to ensure project risks are mitigated.
• Assist with the process for obtaining new grid connections, from initial application through to commissioning and testing.
• Assist in the technical assessment of electrical equipment and turbine technologies.
• Deliver (on/off site) expert technical services in support of renewable generation projects.
• Liaise and coordinate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure delivery specifications are met providing inputs on appropriate tender assessments
• Participate in Value Engineering Workshops and support the team with the development of continual improvement initiatives to drive down the ‘whole lifecycle’ costs of Renewable Energy and Storage System Projects and into operation
• Continuously strive to look for innovative solutions to drive down the project Capex and Opex.
Dimensions
• Provide technical support and advice to development and construction projects
• Undertake general project engineering duties within Projects & Construction Engineering Team in support of the business
• Assist with recommendations, technical advice to commercial teams on the requirements for the onshore supply chain
• Assist with the delivery of Electrical Engineering, strategies, standards and specifications within SPR.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Working towards achieving Chartered Electrical Engineer
• Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
• Experience in supporting development & construction phases of power generation projects
• Experience of Renewables / Power Generation industry
• Health & Safety management skills (NEBOSH preferred)
• Assist with technical problems, providing creative solutions when required
• Good working knowledge of industry standards, design and installation codes of practice and regulations
• Working knowledge of IEC and National standards, associated with Electrical Switchgear, Major Equipment and protection systems
• Good technical report writing and presentation skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experienced team player who delivers against targets
• Pro-active, professional attitude and diligent approach. Self-starter who can work with the minimal of supervision

Planning & Organising
• Assisting with planning own activities in support to the Senior Electrical Engineer
• Assist with the grid code compliance and connection process and related compliance issues
• Draft proposals to optimise the renewable energy site design with electrical design consultants
• Understand supply chain requirements and development profiles for windfarms, Solar PV and Energy Storage Systems
• Coordinate with suppliers to support supply chain strategies for windfarms, Solar PV and Energy Storage Systems
• Assist in developing onshore design approach for renewable assets infrastructure
• Comply with SPR technical requirements and challenge the technicalities where appropriate, and costs of suppliers’ proposals.
• Assist with system integration and standardisation strategies for SPR and support negotiation with suppliers to prioritise and leverage our requirements.
• Assist with grid connection signal strategies for SPR and negotiating with the System Operators and equipment suppliers to adopt our proposals.
• Assisting with the optimisation of design approach for grid code compliant connections
Internal and External Relationships
• Engages collaboratively with UK O&M and Global Services departments.
• The role involves the complexity of undertaking the project delivery activities for assigned projects. To achieve this the role must work closely with the wider technical teams and project managers in delivering this key aspect of the project.
• Good internal relationships across ScottishPower Renewables, Scottish Power and the wider the Iberdrola Renewables business.
Develop and maintain strong trusting internal relationships,
• Across the Projects & Construction team and the wider SPR technical teams to ensure a SPR collaborative business approach for compliance with strategies and business plans to meet targets.
• With the Iberdrola Global Services Electrical Engineering Functions to comply with the development and implementation of Group wide practices, processes and engineering standards.
• With electrical engineering peers in the Spanish, USA and Rest of the Worlds Businesses to ensure there is regular exchanging and sharing of: best practices & procedures, learning opportunities and technical improvements.

Minimum Criteria (mandatory)
Criteria
• Electrical Engineering degree qualification
• Significant relevant experience in Grid Connection and electrical design
• IT literate with the ability to operate MS office systems and other IT based project management software.
• Need to hold a driving license and be prepared to work away from base office location as and when required.
• Working towards Chartered member status of the IET is preferable
• Good understanding of Health and Safety Principles and their application in the delivery of large scale projects.
