Applications are invited from registered nurses or midwives, who have a ‘live’ NMC Registration, with significant experience of safeguarding adults and children against Domestic Abuse. We are looking for someone who has effective organisational skills, highly developed communication skills, knowledge and understanding of key legislation and guidance underpinning safeguarding children and adult at risk practice of domestic abuse and harmful practices and has the ability to interact with people from a wide variety of professional backgrounds.

Working as part of the Corporate Safeguarding Team the post holder will support the Named Safeguarding Professionals in meeting the statutory requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and the Care Act (2014). The post holder will pro-actively contribute to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and adults, at risk domestic abuse and harmful practices through the development and delivery of high-quality services in BHRUT. This is an excellent opportunity to develop and influence the harmful practice agendas within a busy Acute NHS Trust and is also an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to step into a Named Nurse role in the future. Be responsible for ensuring that BHRUT meets its statutory requirements in respect of the domestic abuse and harmful practices agendas.

Lead on the development and updates of guidelines, policies and procedures, implementing national guidance at a local level and take a lead on developing and delivering training programmes.

Provide clinical expertise and advice in relation to harmful practices, domestic abuse and for BHRUT staff. The expertise will guide and promote the embedding of the principles of safe practice relating to domestic abuse and harmful practices to protect and safeguard children, young people and adults into everyday professional practice.

Support the Named Safeguarding Professionals, and members of the Safeguarding Team in ensuring that all BHRUT policies and procedures are in line with national guidance and reflect the Think Family approach as per the Trust’s Safeguarding Strategy.

Be responsible for supporting the Named Safeguarding Professionals in ensuring that the outcome of Domestic Homicide Review Panels, Internal Management Reviews and recommendations and action plans from Domestic Homicide Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews are monitored for compliance and implemented into practice.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way inreducing the time our patientswait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to beaccredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of theNorth East London Cancer Alliance.
