Summary

The Market Bosworth School is seeking to appoint an inspirational member of staff to join our talented Pastoral Team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the success of the school and will be integral to our future development. Whilst applicants may have worked with young people in some capacity, specific experience is less important than a dedication to professional development alongside a flexible and committed teamwork approach. The Head of Year role plays a vital part in ensuring our students are safe, behave well, are happy at school, attend regularly and enjoy learning. Heads of Year support students to become citizens of the future, focusing on our school’s STEER values (Success, Together, Enjoyment, Engagement and Responsibility). The Market Bosworth School is very proud of its students and staff. We have excellent academic standards and work hard to create a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all. We have been rated as an “Outstanding” school by Ofsted 3 times in 2009, 2012 and most recently in 2018, where inspectors commented “A sense of care and nurture permeates the school”. In 2022, we were named as a Lead School for the DFE Behaviour Hub programme. We are proud to be a single academy trust. This is an exciting time for the School, as we build on our now established GCSE achievements of the last 6 years, where we have consistently achieved results within the top 5% of all schools. We have been the highest attaining state school in Leicestershire for the last 3 years of published results. In 2023 our students’ progress was exceptional and the school achieved an overall progress score of +0.75.Main responsibilities: • To be the figurehead of a year group at school.
• Inspire year team members by personal example and hard work
• Create a vision, sense of purpose and pride in the Year Team, including the promotion of year-based activities.
• Coordinate student intervention, support and challenge at all levels, including pastoral, academic, safeguarding, attendance, careers, family and friendships.
• Have a high profile, day-to-day presence around the school.
• To be compliant with all school policies and procedures.Leadership and Management
• To oversee and support the work of the Class Tutor during tutor time with particular regard to reinforcing the school’s policies, values and ethos.
• To be responsible for the organisation and delivery of the year assembly programme.
• Encourage students to play a full part in the life of the school by contributing towards activities including organisation of teams, fundraising initiatives, membership of (or contributions to) the Student Council, trips and activities.
• To support the creation and implementation of all relevant aspects of the School Improvement Plan.
• Support the performance management process as required and use it to develop personal and professional effectiveness.
• To attend all meetings as required.
• Ensure newly qualified and staff new to the school receive appropriate induction and support to enable them to become effective tutors.
• Manage the year team budget / rewards finances efficiently.Standards and Achievement • Use national, local and school management data effectively, to monitor standards across the year.
• Work closely with other staff to track the progress of individual students and groups, identifying general and specific areas of under-performance, implementing strategies for improvement, monitoring, and evaluating these strategies for impact.
• Follow up parental comments or concerns regarding achievement, liaising with subject staff and Heads of Department where necessary to resolve issues.Student Behaviour, Welfare and Attendance • Be responsible for the care of students within the year, promoting self-discipline and positive behaviour in accordance with school policy and the TMBS STEER Values.
• To monitor and organise rewards across the year group.
• To establish procedures that effectively identify student/s who are a cause for concern or a need for intervention and which triggers appropriate follow-up action.
• To have oversight of safeguarding concerns, uniform, behaviour and attendance of students in a designated cohort.
• To liaise with the attendance team to ensure high standards of attendance and punctuality.
• In liaison with the other senior staff to utilise the appropriate outside agency/s.
• Liaise with all staff and in particular Subject Heads, Pastoral Team, Attendance Team and SLT on discipline issues, and to take an active role in the discipline in line with school behaviour policies.
